Call for Help; Service as Action at Miras
In the middle of February of this year, the Grade 10 students of Miras International School learned from the President of The Public Foundation, “Pravo na Lubov” Mariya Makarova, that Nadezhda Gubina and her grandchildren Alexander and Anna needed our support and help.
This call touched the students as well as their families and teachers. During two days, the students’ parents visited Ms Nadezhda G. to bring groceries of daily necessities and clothes for Sasha, which were bought with money raised by Miras students.
Their home became filled with happiness and joy, and our students made new friends and took a chance to be caring and not indifferent!

6D Student Makes Trip to Orphanage 1
On 6 January 2019 Miras International School students visited Orphanage 1. Its children and staff made us very welcome, and were open and friendly! Grade 6D student Caroline Dubois prepared a range of activities for the children: reading fairytales in three languages (Russian, English and Kazakh), games developing, logical thinking, and more! Most of all, the children enjoyed learning French. Caroline taught the kids simple French words and phrases. This was Caroline's first visit to her new friends. She had worried a lot and thought out her lesson. Her family (the mother, brother and sister) came to support her and participated in this charity action. The kids really enjoyed the lesson! Caroline and her family promised that they would teach the children some more French!

Whatever happens in life we should help others,
especially when an ordeal falls to the lot of a child ...
The best way to pay attention is to give children joy.
Our school never forgets about the children from Orphanage 1 and tries to shows its care and attention whenever possible. This time we also delighted them by giving them 50 tickets for the city zoological garden. These tickets were granted by the zoo administration in gratitude for the acorns and nuts collected by our students for the zoo’s inhabitants as a part of Acorn Autumn action. During the festive days of December our students will visit the inhabitants of the city zoo and we hope that they get great joy from communicating with them.

Let’s fulfil a child’s dream
As everyone knows, there are thousands of children who need urgent and expensive treatment and financial support when a mischief comes to their homes.
Another good deed was done last Friday. The family of Leven Nikita, a 6 year-old boy from Shymkent, asked us for help. Nikita is being treated in the Republican Institute of Oncology with a diagnosis of a brain tumor in the left hemisphere. Some 50,000 Tenge was collected and donated by the secondary school student council, school staff and faculty.
Such targeted assistance actions, which we call “Fulfill a child’s dream”, have been held by our school many times. We help to fulfill cherished desires of the children suffering from oncological diseases, which give them strength to live longer; we provide financial assistance for their treatment and surgery, and to buy them toys. The positive and good that we give to sick children is the most powerful therapy for recovery.
On the eve of the New Year’s Day, children especially wait for a miracle and make their cherished wishes.
- We wonder what kind of wishes children in Almaty Oncology Institute make. The wishes of the children from Oncology Institute, which for some time becomes their home, are generally no different from the wishes of other children, except that they dream of quickly getting better and returning home. They are already waiting for Santa Claus with gifts. So Nikita Leven has a cherished dream, and he has already written a letter to Santa Claus where he asked him to give a four-legged friend - a small white dog – Spitz.
Children mostly ask for gadgets, of course. And it is understandable, as smartphones and tablets help them in some way get distracted during long days of staying in the hospital.
During our regular summer visit to the hospital, the medical staff asked us to fulfill the dream of a sick child from a low-income family who had been treated there. It was a six-year old boy called Makhambet Maksat from the far town of Saryagash, Shimkent Region, who was in the hospital with a diagnosis of a brain tumor. He dreamed of a tablet. And his dream has come true. The secondary school student council donated the required amount of money to buy him a tablet. Also, for this purpose the funds earned from the sale of the school newspaper “Miras Times” were used, and our school staff supported this action and provided some financial aid.
The visit on Friday, November 30 was very kind. We learned about the children’s wishes for the New Year’s Day, provided material aid to the family of the sick child, and treated the children to fruit. The smell of tangerines and apples in the rooms which had been brought by us from the cold strengthened the children's expectations of the magical holiday - the New Year’s Day, and hence the hopes for recovery, miracles and surprises ...
We thank all colleagues, students and parents who participate in school charity events.
Never miss a chance to do a good deed, as it's so easy!

Dear friends,
As you know New Year is the time not only for receiving gifts, but also presenting them, at that sharing their warmth and kindness with others. Traditionally, Miras students actively participate in charity actions. As a part of the Charity Festival, students of Grades 11 A/C together with their parents and homeroom leader, decided to help children aged 0–4 years from the “Home of Babies” in the town of Chilik, Almaty region. Parents and students of graduating classes have bought children’s warm clothes and board games worth 400 000 Tenge. On Friday 30 November all the gifts were given to the head physician of the “Home of Babies” and representatives of “Dara” Charity Foundation.
