Chess is the gymnasium of the mind

Blaise Pascal

Here are only 10 reasons to play chess.

Chess is

Logic and Thinking

In the course of the game, the brain trains all the time. In thought, you are considering different options to find the best move among them. Sometime later, search for the option will accelerate. Each new level of the activity contributes to the development of thinking.

In the course of the game, a chess player thinks out many combinations, imaging the position in a clear way. Professionals can play the whole game with their closed eyes, making each move mentally.

Attentiveness and the ability to sit still

You can lead the whole game unless you relax a little bit to lose your advantage. Therefore, watchfulness and concentration must be kept up throughout the game.

When playing chess, you always think over 2-3 moves ahead. And this habit will be reflected in the daily life. For example, waking up in the morning, you think out mechanically how to do everything fast and effectively.

The mental activity develops imagination and fantasy. For good reason, chess is considered to be not only sports, but the arts as well. Vivid imagination is the foundation of creativity.

Time management

There are 3 types of chess: classical, rapid and blitz. In the classical chess, each competitor has 2 hours of play, in the rapid ones - half an hour, in the blitz - 5 minutes. If you fail to meet the set time limits, you lose. Thus, chess teaches to allocate time properly. This is an important skill for both school learning and doing a task from employer in the future life.

Stress resistance

You are training to a tournament for months. Some competitions take place once a year. Before you win one day, you have lost 10 times. After such experience, difficulties at school or at work are not hard to cope with.

The tournament, covering the hundreds of chess players, defines the best one as a participant, who has had no defeat.

Hard-Working and Self-Control

Home training develop your tactical vision and positional understanding. A tournament is a tremendous load for its participant. A semi-professional chess player spends approximately 4-5 hours for one game with 2-3 hour preparation to it. Total rounds are 9 or 11, going one after another.

Will and Temper

Like other sports, chess strengthens your qualities and will power. A new dream is originating in you. You learn to achieve that, you learn to take a punch and not to give up.

Chess does not develop this aspect, nevertheless it is part of any athlete’s life as well. People associate a chess player with a deep mind. As soon as people get acquainted with you, they start expecting much of you. And you have to do your best in order to meet their expectations.
