The Charitable Foundation, “DARA” invites us to take part in the charity action “Pampers/Diapers Drive”.

 Action will go on from September 25^th until October 20^th.

For collecting pampers there will be special corners in the atriums of the primary and secondary schools as well as in the kindergarten and preschool.

We invite all the school community to take part in the charity action “Pampers/ Diapers Drive”.

Let’s do good deeds together!

Every person has his or her own understanding of the word  “KINDNESS.” When hearing this word some people think about doing good deeds, others about being helpful or about something else. In the present-day world we hear so many negative things that many students do not know how to respond to the question: “What is kindness?”

I would like to share my observations with you. One autumn day I went to my sons school for a parent-teacher meeting. We were told about a girl who was really ill and needed treatment. The girl studied in the adjacent grade. Her family was supported only by that school as they did not have any relatives living close by.

I considered it my duty to tell our Miras students about her. From the very first minute of my conversation with our students I felt a warmth in my soul and I saw in their eyes that they were ready to help that girl and would be indifferent to her situation. They heard a call for help and immediately responded to it. 

Anna Khachatryan quickly organized charity activities and took the sick girl under her wing. We still try to visit this family regularly and help them as much as possible.

…….It shows you that a little ‘kindness’ can replace a gift of a holiday, or help sick people overcome their difficulties faster and cheer them up during sad moments. Indeed, today when everyone has so many things to take care of, we really lack mercy and support. Telephones and computers have replaced face-to-face communication depriving us of humaneness and spiritual warmth. So it is necessary to think about it more often as we should be’ kinder’ and closer to each other. We live in this world and sometimes do not know about those who really need our support so they do not have to face their problems on their own.   

As great writer and humanist A.P. Chekhov wrote: “Hasten to do good deeds”.

The most favorite holiday is approaching - it is New Year!

New Year is a good reason for doing good deeds.

We invite all the school community to take part in New Year charity events.

From November 27 to December 15, this school is hosting charitable events as follows:

For collecting warm clothes there will be special corners in the atriums of the primary and secondary schools as well as at the kindergarten and preschool.

It is necessary to prepare board games by December 15 for the festival at the school theater. All gifts should be put under the New Year’s tree. At the end of the festival, all the gifts will be given to the children from the orphanage #1, who will attend the festival as guests.

Dear colleagues!

As you know, our school pays a lot of attention to charitable activities. Since the beginning of this academic year, there have been several charity events that have involved the whole school community. Charitable actions are wonderful but they need to be ongoing especially when the events are organized for children suffering from cancer.

For many years we have been rendering different assistance to the Children's Department at the National Institute of Oncology and Radiology. It has included concerts and puppet theatres, decorating the walls in the department cafeteria, decorating the corridors with indoor plants, giving them our students' artwork for decorating the corridors and wards. Several times we have also provided funds for families whose child has an extreme medical condition requiring specialized care.

On November 8, 2017 we visited the Institute of Oncology again. On behalf of the whole school community the representatives of the Student Council gave medicine to the Children's Department equal to the amount of 61,125 tenge. These funds were raised as a result of a charitable action held by the Secondary School Student Council in term 1.

Charity Action with Orphanage #1

 On October 14, the Secondary School Student Council together with Grade 11 homeroom leader Gulnara Bayakhmetova decided to spend their weekend with the children from Orphanage #1. Having called, we learnt that the TV-set of the guys from the group “Zhas Ulan” had broken and our students decided to present them a new one. Last week the students of 7A and 7D classes with the Secondary School Student Council arranged charity events, earning 91 000 tenge. From the amount 63 000 tenge were spent for buying a TV-set. The Miras students decided to spend the remaining 28 000 tenge to purchase medicine for the Children's Department of Oncology at the National Institute of Oncology and Radiology in Almaty.

As usual, the students of our school were very responsible in preparing for a meeting with the children who were left parentless. These children need attention and communication. They are always happy to accept guests; they want to share their dreams with new people and they look forward to seeing their old friends.

This time our students brought the orphanage children table games they all enjoyed playing together.  At Miras we believe the IBMYP shared value of Service as Action:  “ IB learners strive to be caring members of the community who demonstrate a commitment to service—making a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.”   It’s safe to say this was accomplished by all of the students who supported the project, “Action for Children.”

On 21 May our staff visited Orphanage 1. We were very glad that some joined by parents and students joined us this time. Elina Vladimirovna Vints, who represented the Parent-Teacher Committee and her daughter Tsoi Adel, a student in Grade 6C, conducted a lesson on making stained glass windows. The simple techniques, unusual material and exciting images brought the children tons of happiness and made the process of making stained glass windows, joyful and interesting.

Another interesting and useful activity was prepared by Tatiyana Gennadiyevna Napalkova. Together with children of the junior group, they used plasticine to create different objects and animals. Since childhood we have known that modelling lets young children develop their imaginations and their motor skills while having fun in art. It gives every child an opportunity to feel like an expert or creator, even if they make a tiny and funny hedgehog.

One of our primary school teachers, Tala Atos taught the girls of Aigolek Group how to try something new and make not only beautiful, but also useful things out of a simple material. So, together they made some nice cases for pencils and pens. Alla Dmitirevna Dembayuk continued introducing the children to the magic world of Origami. This time, Ms. Alla Dmitriyevna told them about the origin of the “Kusudama Balloon”.

According to one legend, the word “Kusudama” is comprised of two words which are “kusuri” (medicine) and “tama” (balloon). So, it means a medical balloon. It was considered that if you put medicinal herbs into such a balloon and hung it over a sick person’s bed, s/he would be cured. Then they all together started making a magic “Kusudama” balloon.

Holina Elena Georgiyevna explained the girls the techniques for setting a festive table. After all, they are future housewives. Ms. Elena Georgiyevna showed them how to make a table look fantastic using unusual napkins. It all helps to create a a nice atmosphere for a tea party.

After such exciting lessons the girls felt as though they were real confectioners. This time they themselves decorated a raspberry and pudding pie which had been made by our teachers. Naturally the first piece of this wonderful dessert was given to their teacher whom they tenderly call “mum”.

We had such a productive weekend. Let’s continue to do good deeds together!

Dear friends, our wonderful tradition of visiting Orphanage 1 is still continuing!

More and more teachers of our school wish to care for and spend a little of their time with the children.

Our Primary School teacher, Ms. Tala Atos who visited the Orphanage for the first time, prepared an unusual activity for the junior girls. “What do you think can be made out of kids’ socks?”

Ms. Tala taught the girls how to make funny bunnies of different colors out of kids’ socks!!! Not only did the junior girls like this activity, but also the girls in the senior group as well. So, Ms. Tala promised to teach them how to make real dolls next time!

Children who have been left without their parents need attention and communication. They are always happy to see visitors, to share their dreams with new people and they look forward to seeing old friends like Adam Huggins, Elena Holina and Zarina Yelbayeva who share their warmth, attention and care with the children in the orphanage. They all play together, read or just sit around and have a chat. Our last visit coincided with ‘Defender of the Fatherland’ Day, so, we made pies, pancakes and baursaks, and together with the girls of “Aigolek” group laid a festive table, invited the boys of “Zhas Ulan” group and all together congratulated our future Fatherland defenders!

There was also a small improvised concert. The girls sang a song called “Bal Dauren” and prepared a fantastic dance as a present to the boys, and Roma Korneyev of “Zhas Ulan” group performed the famous song “Julie”.

Then, we had tea and chatted. It was great fun and the food was delicious!
