RULES OF THE COMPETITION for educational grants to study at Miras International Schools of the NNEF Public Foundation

  1. General provisions

1.1. These Rules of the Competition for educational grants to study at Miras International Schools of the NNEF Public Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Rules) determine the procedure for the Competition for grants, as well as the awarding procedure and conditions for the validity of the grants.

1.2. The purpose of the Competition is to provide greater access to the international education programmes implemented by the "Miras" International Schools of the NNEF Public Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Schools/Schools).

1.3. Grants are provided only for grades 10-11 of Miras International Schools, including the Diploma Programme, by the Halyk Charity Foundation Private Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Halyk Foundation) and the Public Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the NNEF Foundation).

1.4. Grants provide the opportunity to study at the School for one school year at a reduced cost, full or partial. The grant is automatically renewed for the following years of study if the learning outcomes meet the conditions of the grant specified in section 4 of the present Rules.

1.5. The number of grants and their amounts are determined annually by the Halyk Foundation and the NNEF Foundation.

1.6. Only citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan who study in general secondary education organisations (hereinafter referred to as Participants) may take part in the Competition.

1.7. Participants of the Competition for the 100th grant from the Halyk Foundation cannot be close relatives of NNEF employees, School staff, or Halyk Foundation employees.

1.8. Selection of Participants for grants is carried out by the Commission consisting of School representatives, NNEF and Halyk Foundations’ representatives. The Commission's decision shall be documented in a protocol.

1.9. When selecting candidates for the 100th grant from the Halyk Foundation, representatives from organisations/institutions working in the public sphere, education, social support and charity are invited to join the Competition Commission.

1.10. The school is not responsible if anyone receives incorrect and/or misleading information about the Competition from other sources.

  1. Procedure for the Competition

2.1. The Competition consists of the following stages:

  • February 1 - publication of official information about the Competition on the schools' social media.
  • February 15-April 14 - the School receives grant applications and necessary documents from Participants, selection based on documents;
  • April 17-May 12 - subject tests;
  • May 15-31 May - summing up the results of the Competition;
  • June 1-June-15 June - announcement of the results of the Competition.

2.2. In order to participate in the Competition, the Participant must submit the following documents to the School's Admission Office (Office of Student Affairs - +7 (700) 585 20 40):

2.2.1. a written application to the Head of the School for a grant (in the required form), signed by the Participant's parent (legal representative);

2.2.2. documents showing that the Participant has successfully completed the previous year's studies at a school/other secondary education institution, namely:

  1. a) grades at least "good" and "excellent" in all subjects (or the equivalent of corresponding grades according to the grading scale established by the country of previous study);
  2. b) grade "excellent" in the subjects that will be given in the test (or the equivalent of the highest grade according to the grading scale officially established in the country of previous study).

2.2.3. Certificates, diplomas and other official documents attesting to the Participant's outstanding progress/achievements in the previous study period.

2.3. Documents proving the successful study of the Participant shall be submitted in paper format in the form of originals (if any) and copies taken from the originals. Copies of documents submitted by Participants for the Competition will not be returned.

2.4. After acceptance of the documents, the Participant shall be tested in the following subjects: the language of instruction at the School (Kazakh, Russian, English), English (if it is not the Participant's chosen language of instruction at the School) and Mathematics.

2.5. For enrolment in English language classes, the Participant is additionally interviewed in English after the test. At the interview, the participant must demonstrate at least an Upper Intermediate level of English, be able to express his or her thoughts clearly and be able to communicate freely in English.

З. Grant awarding procedure

3.1. The procedure for awarding educational grants includes:

З. 1.1. consideration of the results of the educational grant test;

3.1.2. portfolio competition (participants' achievements in academic, creative and sports fields);

3.1.30 consideration and approval of the list of candidates for educational grants;

3.1.4. awarding educational grants and announcing the results.

3.2. The results of the Competition are considered collectively by the Competition Commission, which is established for the period of the Competition by order of the management of the NNEF Foundation. The Commission consists of representatives of the Schools, representatives of the NNEF Foundation and representatives of the Halyk Foundation. The Competition Commission shall be chaired by the Director of the Foundation or a person authorised by the Director. The decision of the Commission shall be recorded in a protocol.

3.3. If conditions are equal, preference is given to:

  • candidates from socially vulnerable groups;
  • candidates with personal academic, sports and creative achievements (prizewinners of national and international Olympiads, competitions, contests, etc., held by authorised bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan or authoritative certified/accredited foreign organisations).

3.4. Grants are provided at 100%, 50% and 30% of the relevant NNEF-approved tuition fees.

3.5. Admission scores for grants are set annually by the Competition Commission.

 3.6. The results of the Competition are published on the School's website within 3 working days of the decision of the Competition Commission.

  1. Terms and conditions of the grant and obligations of the Grant Receiver

4.1. A grant for study at the School shall be awarded for the whole school year if a student who has received a grant (hereinafter the Grant Receiver) complies with the following conditions:

4.1.1. in the first year of study on the grant at the end of the first semester (interim monitoring), the Grant Receiver must have grades which correspond to the scale shown in Table 1.

4.1.2. by the end of the first year of study on the grant, and all subsequent years of study, the Grant Receiver must have grades which correspond to the scale shown in Table 2.

4.1.3. Grant receivers who are winners of national and international Olympiads in subjects which are studied within the DP/MYP programmes are allowed to have 1-2 "5" grades in non-core subjects.

4.1.4. A Grant Receiver must, throughout the school year, avoid disciplinary offences of levels 2-3 as stipulated in the School's Disciplinary Policy.

4.2. The Grant Receiver also undertakes to:

4.2.1. take an active part in the social life of the School, participate in events and programmes organised by the School, the NNEF and Halyk Foundations.

4.2.2. contribute to maintaining a positive image of the School and not to act in a way that discredits the reputation of the School, NNEF and the Halyk Foundations.

4.3. In case of non-compliance with clauses4.1.-4.2 of these Rules, the Grant Receiver shall be disqualified from receiving a grant by the decision of the NNEF Foundation.  In case the Grant Receiver allows disciplinary offences of levels 2-3 and/or commits acts damaging the reputation of the School, NNEF and Halyk Foundation, the Grant Receiver shall be deprived of the grant from the moment of committing such offences/acts. In other cases of non-compliance with clauses 4.1.- 4.2 in these Rules, the Grant Receiver shall be deprived of the grant from the moment the current school term ends.

  1. Specific conditions

5.1. NNEF and the Schools reserve the right to verify the accuracy of the information and documents provided by Participants.

5.2. The NNEF Foundation and the Schools have the right to exclude a Participant from the Competition in the following cases:

5.2.1. submission by the Participant or his/her parent (legal representative) of false information that is not consistent with the reality in full or in part, including forged documents;

5.2.2. violation of the School rules by the Participant, his/her parent (legal representative) and/or any other person accompanying the Participant;

5.2.3. violations of the test procedure rules by the Participant (including any violation of the Academic Integrity Policy).

  1. Final provisions

6.1. These Rules shall come into force on February 1, 2023.

6.2. There is no time limit on the validity of these Rules. The Rules shall be reviewed as necessary, but not less frequently than every three years, except in the case of amendments and/or supplements due to amendments and/or supplements to the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

6.3. Amendments and supplements to these Rules shall be made and approved in the same manner as for the approval of these Rules.
